The 53rd anniversary of her birth was celebrated in 2021. She is the daughter of Susan Sofer a psychology professor as well as Martin Sofer a Conservative rabbi. Following her parents' divorce and relocation to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. In 1970 she and her brother David relocated into Teaneck New Jersey with their father. At the age of 5, they relocated into Western Pennsylvania. They resided in Ambridge Pennsylvania, where her father ran the Beth Samuels Jewish Center. She was a student at Frisch School, an all-girls co-educational Modern Orthodox Jewish secondary school situated in Paramus New Jersey. She lived with her father at North Bergen New Jersey. He was the Rabbi of Temple Beth El. After graduating from North Bergen High School, she was enrolled at Montclair State College.
